Chillul hashem

We can’t face a mirror,

fear, hate, fury,

visions of the other and the deaths never settled,

past, like stories never finished,

years of nightmares,

of inhuman violence

that irrationally clouds our vision

that assaults our understanding, reasoning

and compassion for the other and ourselves.

A dark prison of feelings,

of dreams without wings

nor light.

A becoming without direction or rest

bombs keep falling, shrapnel, mangled bodies,

an ambulance depart amidst the roar,

its light illuminate the rubble,

of homes, buildings, hospitals, schools and the past;

metal birds fly, desolation in their bellies,

and old people and children cry

for their parents and their children

infinite pain in their guts.

A cell without God, without a soul

without the other.

Only us, a solitary confinement

and our unlimited fear, fury, hate.

The Gaza war that never ends.

I’d like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people as the traditional owners and true sovereigns of the land where I live. I like to pay my respects to elders past and present. Sovereignty has not been ceded, treaties have not been signed.

I like to extend the acknowledgement to other traditional owners in Australia, Latin America and other parts of the world.
