The words float

in the night

lighten by the fire

we are all eyes

Words flow

getting together, embracing

the lizard and the bird

fight in the sky

they fall to the earth

to melt in the rock

Our ancestors

are feathers and bones

are rock tools

they are our words, our dreams

In the cold of the night

in the warmth of the fire

words become

stories.

More than humans

we are stories.

Words that put us together

that unite us

to the sand, the rocks

to the sea, the kangaroo

to the lizard, the snake

to the stars, the tree

water and fire

Our dreams

are stories

our stories.

I’d like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people as the traditional owners and true sovereigns of the land where I live. I like to pay my respects to elders past and present. Sovereignty has not been ceded, treaties have not been signed.

I like to extend the acknowledgement to other traditional owners in Australia, Latin America and other parts of the world.
